Portugal’s religious capital attracts millions of pilgrims every year, due to its mystical power and atmosphere. It can hold about 300 thousand faithful followers at the same time and is twice the size of Saint Peter’s Square in the Vatican City.
At about 2 kilometers away from Fátima in a small village called ‘Aljustrel’ we can visit Marto’s Family House and Lúcia’s House.
This exceptional architectural ensemble is the result of the fulfillment of a promise made by King João I of Portugal in gratitude for the victory in Aljubarrota, a battle fought on August 14th, 1385, which secured the throne and guaranteed the independence of Portugal. It is one of the most beautiful works of Gothic and Manueline architecture. Nowadays, Batalha Monastery is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Located at the coast of central Portugal, land of legends and traditions, sea and fishing, simple and friendly people, Nazaré still has the authenticity that inspired writers and dazzled artists. Portugal’s most famous fishing village, Nazaré also has beaches with great spots for surf, bodyboard, Tow-In and SUP lovers. In 2011 Garrett McNamara broke the world record for the largest surfed wave (30 meters) at ‘Canhão da Nazaré’.
Beautiful medieval town, famous for its landscape and history and also for the typical liquor of ‘Ginja’. Here you can stroll through the narrow streets, visit the castle, taste Ginja liquor and artistic chocolates, enjoy the flowered balconies, the sidewalks covered in Portuguese pavement and the architecture of the houses. Óbidos is the ideal destination for a romantic walk. With a rich historical tradition, Óbidos is one of the most beautiful jewels of the country.
World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The works of this 12th-century monument begun in 1178 and lasted for 100 years, through various stages of construction. The Monastery of Alcobaça is known for its impressive gothic architecture and greatest love story in the history of Portugal – the tragic passion of D. Pedro and D. Inês de Castro.
